About the Role:
Global News Radio 980 CKNW is looking for a part-time Radio Anchor/Producer to join the #1 newsroom in Western Canada. This position is part of the CKNW Radio News team which produces live, local newscasts around the clock, 7 days a week
This is a Group 2 position under the current Collective Agreement. Position will require work on weekends and may involve a variety of shifts including early morning and evenings.
Reporting to the Manager, Radio News, you will be responsible for:
Beat reporting from the field and filing back to the Radio News Desk;
Inside reporting: conducting interviews, writing up content for on air and online;
Enterprise reporting, developing original content and advancing existing content;
Anchoring hourly and half hourly newscasts on CKNW;
Monitoring all news sources, including feeds, wires and social media and update social media and website;
Chasing breaking news stories;
Monitoring all news sources, including feeds, wires, and social media and update social media and website;
Chasing breaking news stories;
Monitoring CKNW Talk Shows and pull newsworthy stories;
Executing Amber Alerts
What We Need From You:
Degree or diploma in Broadcast Journalism from a recognized institution;
At least 3 years’ experience anchoring and reporting;
Proven ability to write accurate, concise, creative broadcast copy;
Experience meeting multiple deadlines for broadcast and online;
Ability to develop sources, contacts and research original stories for radio and online;
Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation;
Familiarity and ease in using Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media;
Excellent people skills with the ability to work independently, effectively and cooperatively in a team environment;
A valid driver’s license and vehicle.
